Telegony: Why your choices matter.

Telegony is the scientific theory that once a female mates with a male, part of his DNA, his genetic material, remains present in hers. This was taken as an obvious fact in livestock breeding and animal husbandry, which is why if a scrub (low quality) bull got into a rancher’s  herd’s prime breeding stock and impregnated one of a rancher’s cows, the animal was isolated, had the calf, then was put down and butchered. Traces of the miscreant bull’s DNA could, in fact, randomly show up in future calves by different bulls. Even when some silly people act like humans are all the same and equal, those who deal with breeding on a day to day basis know that quality counts.

It counts in humans, too, and the same biological processes are at play. A new University study tends to prove it, once again.This is something that many of us already knew.

“Women retain and carry living DNA from every man with whom they have sexual intercourse, according to a new study by the University of Seattle and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

The study, which discovered the startling information by accident, was originally trying to determine if women who have been pregnant with a son might be more predisposed to certain neurological diseases that occur more frequently in males.

But as the scientists picked apart the female brain, the study began to veer wildly off course. As it turns out, the female brain is even more mysterious than we previously thought.

The study found that female brains often harbor “male microchimerism” or in other words, the presence of male DNA that originated from another individual, and are genetically distinct from the cells that make up the rest of the woman.”
