Jackson, MS Mayor Smells Blood

As more and more blacks move down from the cities of the northeast and midwest, such as New York and Chicago, and back to the deep south, White flight out of the darkening Dixie accelerates. This cyclical effect is being felt, and responded to, by growing calls for Black Nationalism in places such as Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Mississippi. Now, one of them is the Mayor of 80% black Jackson, the state capitol of Mississippi, and the largest city in the state.

The new Mayor-Elect, Chokwe Lumumba, is a proud member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, which developed out of the New Afrika People’s Organization, a militant black nationalist group founded by his father with the express goal of forming an independent black nation in the south called the Republic of New Afrika. The father didn’t achieve that dream, but the son senses that balkanization is coming, and he’s eager to make it come true, by any means necessary.
