Failsafe Ways To Prepare For Disaster At The Office

Most preppers are ready for disaster to strike when they’re inside their homes. They’ve often been stockpiling survival food for weeks, and have numerous survival tools and pouches of emergency water at the ready.
They’ve also often gone to the trouble of stocking a bug out bag that’s at the ready in case they have to skip town. However, what most preppers don’t think about is what happens if disaster strikes in the normal, mundane hours of the average workday. If SHTF when you’re at the office, you might not be near as ready as you might be at home. Failsafe Ways To Prepare For Disaster At The Office

Take Inventory

Before you go out and buy survival supplies, it’s important to first look around and see what resources you already have.

For instance, nearly every workplace will have a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher. Know where these are so you can use them if and when you need to. Also, let someone know if the first-aid kit is running low on supplies.

And, when you tell people (like your boss) about the supplies, be sure to approach it a concerned employee, rather than an SHTF-expecting prepper. This is often a better approach for ensuring the office is safe – even though you’re preparing for something bigger.

In addition, be sure to ask your HR department what safety procedures are in place if something like a fire or a natural disaster occurs (or if an active shooter enters the building). Not only will this inform you of what’s about to happen, but you can actually lead your coworkers to safety when they panic in the middle of an emergency.

Use The Lockers To Your Advantage

Many times offices have lockers their employees can use to store personal belongings. You may also have a file cabinet that locks next to your desk.

Either way, you can use this to your advantage by storing a small emergency kit/bug out bag inside. This way, if something goes down, you’ll likely have a lot more preparation for it than anyone else in the office.

Keep in mind that your office may conduct random locker/file cabinet checks, so don’t put anything in there that is a violation of your workplace’s code of conduct. Also, be wary of multi-tools, as they contain knives. It’s likely you’ll be able to get away with this in a blue-collar job, but far less likely in a white collar one.

Bring An Extra-Large Lunchbox To Work

Carry your noontime meal and deceive your coworkers at the same time by bringing in an extra-large size lunchbox. This can be a handy storage container to hold survival supplies, since lunchboxes are pretty common, and nobody’s likely to snoop in it.

Just make sure to store your supplies at the bottom of the box/bag, and your lunch on top (or keep them in separate compartments altogether).

This way, you’ll be ready if disaster strikes, and your coworkers will be none the wiser.
