The Day of Reckoning

Editorial note: it will come as little surprise to our readers to learn that David Brooks is not Irish.

by Paul Jones

An apologist for the increasingly radical ideology of the so-called Progressives in the U.S. today is David Brooks, though according to Wikipedia he is “… a Canadian-born center-right political commentator.”  His article in “The New York Times” Op-Ed section of June 7, 2019 reflects this.

In the article, “The Racial Reckoning Comes,” he first speaks of the original uniting story in what he sees as a propositional nation, that of Benjamin Franklin, who “could be held up as the quintessential American-the young hustler who through his ingenuity and dogged self-improvement created new businesses and communities, a new sort of person and a new sort of country.”

But according to the Multiculturalists, Ben’s story doesn’t take into account the realities of the oppression of enslaved blacks, Native Americans and women back in those earlier Colonial times. So Brooks mentions how his friend, Erik Liu, has written a book called “Become America,” which is a collection of sermons between November, 2016 and August, 2018 by this Seattle Progressive. As the sermons develop following Charlottesville, “…Eric’s attention turns more to race. Trump is no longer seen as a historical aberration, but the embodiment of white supremacy that has always been near the core of the American experience.”

So now the narrative being shoved down the throats of young white students, from Elementary through higher education, is the narrative that “America began with a crime-stealing the land from Native Americans. It continued with an atrocity, slavery. The American story is the conflict between oppressors who seek to preserve white supremacy and people who seek to move beyond it. The essential American struggle is to confront the national sin, have a racial reckoning and then seek reconciliation.”

So Brooks sees most of the writers on this issue as taking a position that the U.S. is dealing with a quasi-religious problem, with what is essentially original sin, a sort of shared guilt. But this shared guilt is obviously only the principal concern of whites, so out of all of this has grown such aberrations as Whiteness Studies, or modern-day Sensitivity Training, which is supposed to root out racism. Jews, of course, while labeling themselves for political purposes as whites, only need to “go through the motions” at such affairs since the “bulls eye” of all these attacks are always whites of European descent, and the reality is that the Jews as a group have been the driving force behind our dispossession.

Brooks, in concluding his article, at least warns of this kind of accusatory narrative possibly getting out of hand, but the reality is that “the cat is already out of the bag.” Nothing is going to stop now this rising tide of Radical Left politics. European-Americans, soon to be simply the largest minority group in a nation of minorities, are at some point going to have to react and coalesce  self-consciously, just as all the others have done, including the Jews. If this doesn’t happen soon, we only have to look at how whites are treated in South Africa to see where all of this “racial reckoning” is leading to.
