Our Future as Whites

The book titled “White Shift,” by Eric Kaufmann, is interesting reading but a bit tedious at times. In it, this author whose mixed ancestry includes Jewish, Latino and Chinese background, is critical of what he sees as the excesses of what he calls the “Left-Modernist” elites who play the identity politics card always, yet the moment white interests are mentioned or pushed the “racism card” is played against anyone who dares to do so. He believes it is necessary to bring honest debate to the table regarding high levels of non-white immigration into previously heavily majority white nations.

He sees an emerging future for the whites as gradually involving the definition of whiteness becoming more flexible and non-racial, or as he describes the whites of tomorrow, “…they will come in all shades and most won’t look fully Caucasian but they will connect to their ancestors’ portraits and statues via the white archetypes.”

He envisions a Latin American type scenario, where it is true that in most of these countries there is more of an acceptance of lighter skinned mulattos or mestizos as being considered ethnically white. For example, in the Dominican Republic the heavily mulatto population generally act as whites and they celebrate the hero of the country, Juan Pablo Duarte, who was a pure blooded Spaniard who lived in the early 19th Century. But such countries developed over centuries with Catholicism as the state religion and their histories were all different in very significant ways to those settled by English Protestants.

The author mainly grew up in Vancouver, Canada but now lives in England and teaches at the University of London and so at least half of the book deals with information regarding race relations in Canada and Great Britain, although what he does write about the U.S. is fairly well informed by educational studies in the U.S. as well.

It’s nice to see such an intellectual individual who moves in elite circles yet at the same time does understand in many ways the present angst of whites who see the reality of all the “white bashing” going on. But his main concern is not really true white interests, but worries that the political positions of Leftists will push whites to further political radicalization on the Populist Right if their valid interests are not addressed. He essentially sees that the “water” is coming too fast to “boiling point” and that the “frogs” are already starting to “jump out of the pot” and that a slowing down of non-white immigration at this point would be more helpful in eventually leading to his “white shift” vision of the future.

As a mixed race person who looks white at first glance and who appreciates to a great extent the heritage of Western Civilization, he sees himself as an example of what the future could and should look like. He believes that whites need to “…adapt a Hawaiian/Creole strategy, opening up to those of mixed background who identify with their European roots.” (p. 517)

He thinks that “when the growing mixed-race population of the West no longer feels on the defensive against a clear white majority, the desire to protect a European or Euro-American legacy may grow more powered.” (508)

Kaufmann looks into the argument of those on the Right who see Jews as pushing White Genocide: “This process, argue white nationalists, is being driven by liberals and/or Jews, who have used white guilt over the Holocaust, slavery, Jim Crow and colonialism to open the doors of Western countries to mass non-white immigration and race-mixing. Minorities are permitted to have racial identity but whites are not. Only white countries have liberals who oppose the ethnic majority and welcome large-scale immigration of those from different racial backgrounds.” (p. 480)

In reading over subsequent pages in which he tries to refute what I see as actually to be the case, he only makes a few “stabs” against it with the “punches” not “landing.” He tries to show how there are several members of the Alt-right of Jewish background and speaks of how in Israel itself there are certain Jewish groups who take up the Palestinian cause, but he doesn’t get into the role of Jews in academia, Hollywood and the media at all. So his short consideration of this issue, while admirable since most intellectuals won’t even consider it, falls far short of being objective and thorough.

When he mentions that white attitudes towards intermarriage with blacks have shifted over time, so that whereas in 1958 there was 94% disapproval, in 1990 there was 63% and at present the level of disapproval is only 15%, he does not in any way consider the means by which we have gotten to this point. It’s hard to imagine this not having happened without the concerted effort of organized Jewry with all the instruments they have had to shift public opinion over the past several decades.

While he does not see Balkanization as likely in the U.S., the examples he give would seem to support such a situation developing under certain circumstances:  “Where there has been genocide or civil war within a single state, as in Bosnia, Rwanda, Syria or Northern Ireland, unmixing has been partial rather than total. In these cases, unmixing involves populations moving to homogenous enclaves within countries, rather than leaving them.” (p. 453) Yet there is  a real likelihood of this happening in the U.S. since Kaufmann’s  vision of a “Kumbaya” future is not realistic given the forces on the Left playing Identity politics. To follow the speeches and political pronouncements of almost all the Democratic presidential candidates at present is to see such a level of antipathy towards white interests as has hardly ever been seen before-it seems to be aligned with the ideology of the Antifa for the most part.

In the final analysis, Kaufmann’s position in academia and his lack of real familiarity with what’s going on in the U.S. at the grass roots level makes the book valid in certain instances when he’s writing about Canada and Western Europe, but his too narrow vision of the complete social, racial and political picture in the U.S. makes his benign predictions for this country too unrealistic. Civil war and Balkanization are on the horizon and are only awaiting the right catalyst to be set off.

    The thing he doesn’t realize is that racially mixed people in the west (even those that are close to white passing) don’t want to be considered white.
    After years of the left and organized jewish power pushing that whiteness is equal to evil, they don’t want anything to do with it.

    Even in brazil (the racemixing capitol of the modern world) you see this, the high yellow mulatto element is now considering themselves black. The “white” population has lost about 5% of its population, and the “black” population has gained about 5% of its population. These people didn’t just disappear, they felt no affinity towards whitey, and now that he is weak, they decided that now it is time to throw their loyalty in with the “winning team” demographically.

    The minorities in those states are ethnically and racially similar to the majority, they are just culturally different.
    To compare this to the modern minorities in the west, who are racially, ethnically, phenotypically, and culturally so much different from the majorities there is intellectually dishonest.
