If the saying is true that goes “if you want to know the future, look at California,” then as whites we’re in real trouble: An article in “The New York Times” of Aug. 16, 2019 by Dana Goldstein is titled “Classes Aim to Teach ‘History We Don’t See.’ But Whose History?” It shows what the curriculum planners for Ethnic Studies classes for K-12 have devised and it’s revealing in its intents and purposes. At this point “About a fifth of the state’s high schools currently offer an ethnic studies class…” “Students are asked to “critique empire and its relationship to white supremacy, racism, patriarchy…and other forms of power and oppression.” Keep in mind that this Ethnic Studies class is in addition to U.S. History, which has already become mostly an exploration of all the “horrors” carried out by our white ancestors.
According to the article, “More than three-quarters of California students are nonwhite, but 62 percent of their teachers are white.” As I read this I wondered what it would be like to be a white student in such classes as a living representative of someone whose ancestors are seen as historically having been responsible for “white supremacy, racism, patriarchy” and a series of other alleged evils.
Much of the article goes into the criticism by Jewish groups about how the curriculum brings out discrimination by Israel against Palestinians, and we are now seeing that this issue is occupying a lot of controversy at the national political level as well with the prohibition of the planned trip by Rep. Rashida Tlaib to Israel. As a “white” writer of the article, Goldstein really has this as her main theme rather than any concern for her “fellow whites,” those European-American students in classes of Ethnic Studies who would likely feel a great deal of shame and guilt over simply who they are as being offspring of “evil whites” who committed so many “injustices” in the past.
But aside from this Jewish vs. Palestinian sideshow, the main take away for me is that what is going on now in California shows that after whites simply become another minority group in a state that there is no lessening of the white bashing going on, but an increase. This is in large part due to the fact that regardless of how the numbers change for whites in terms of their declining demographics, they will never be allowed the same minority status as other non-white groups. They will simply be bunched with Jews, who for political purposes keep themselves classified within the category of whites, yet the Jews themselves are key actors behind the push for Ethnic Studies which only deals with the supposed “suffering” of non-whites. At the college level, the discipline “has traditionally encompassed the study of four groups: African-Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and Asian-Americans,” however now more non-white groups want to get in on the act, such as Indian-Americans and Arab-Americans, for example.
But the “horns of the dilemma” on which the Jews now find themselves is they can’t have it both ways: Since they still want to be listed and considered as whites, how can they escape being seen as oppressors in Israel when the Palestinian “people of color” are fighting for their rights in Gaza and the West Bank? Their answer is that they are whites but with a special history of having been oppressed by other whites of European background who were anti-Semites therefore this special condition allows them a “free pass” to do pretty much whatever they want to the non-white Palestinians. This argument, however, is seen as valid by fewer and fewer non-whites.
So while the more extreme curriculum is developing in California, with already Oregon and Vermont on the same track, the unanswered question still remains: What is it going to be like to sit as a European-American student from K-12 in such classes? What in these Ethnic Studies classes is going to allow them to feel at least minimally good about themselves and not fall into racial self-hatred? Imagine some “bright eyed and bushy tailed” white Kindergartner or First Grader having the psyche infected with white guilt at such an early age! Also, why is there not a single line in this fairly long article by Ms. Goldstein, hailing from a group famous for supposedly being empathetic and humanitarian, that shows any concern at all for the feelings and sensitivities of young white students of European background?
Obviously we know the answer to this rhetorical question and it is that Jews are not really our “fellow whites,” as they try to make themselves out to be for political purposes, and for this reason we will never be allowed even minimal rights as a minority group in this new America becoming more like California with each passing year. This is one important reason, among many, why our only future with hopes for the younger generation of whites, whites who should be able to take pride in who they are as a people and not be falsely indoctrinated to feel guilty about the color of their skin, is going to be in a Balkanized area of America where a restored European heritage can emerge.
